•  The NMSP has the statewide authority to investigate and enforce criminal statutes, motor vehicle statutes, and administrative statutes.

Opportunities for Advancement

After two years of service in the Uniform Bureau, officers have the opportunity to move into the following:

  • Full time specialized units
    • Investigations Bureau, Tactical Team, EOD, K9, Aircraft, Commercial Motor Vehicle Enforcement, Online Predator Unit, Governor’s Security Detail, Crime Scene Team, Accident Reconstruction Team, Special Investigations Division.
  • Additional specialized units
    • Crisis Negotiations Team, Dive Team, Motorcycle Unit, Honor Guard,
      Hazmat Officer, Bicycle Unit

Uniforms & Equipment

  • All uniforms equipment provided starting in the Academy and continuing into your career.
  • Plus a take home car and clothing allowance once you become a commissioned officer.


  • 25 year retirement at 75%, with the ability to earn up to 90% by longevity
  • No maximum age limit to start your career, no age requirement to retire.
  • Plus an Optional Tax Shelter Savings Program (Deferred Compensation)
